Coolsculpting Q&A

Why is it hard to get rid of stubborn fat deposits?

To understand how problem areas develop, it helps to think about how your body stores fat. Your body is covered in a thin layer of fat cells that lies just beneath the surface of your skin. Each of those cells can expand and contract to accommodate more or less fat.

When you consume more calories than you burn, your body creates more fat and expands your fat cells. When you burn more calories than you consume, your body burns fat, shrinking the cells. The problem lies in the fact that you have no control over which fat cells your body reduces. This is why you can reach and maintain a healthy weight yet still have problem areas.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is an innovative treatment that uses cold temperatures to destroy fat cells. It offers the chance to permanently eliminate fat in your problem areas, refining your body’s contouring.

This treatment is noninvasive and is an excellent alternative to liposuction, a process that surgically removes fat from your body. CoolSculpting requires no anesthesia, no preparation, and no significant recovery time. You can return to regular routines immediately after your sessions.

CoolSculpting works by delivering extremely cold temperatures to the areas where you’d like to lose fat. That process freezes a portion of targeted fat cells. This damages the cell walls, preventing the cells from retaining fat. The collapsed cells and the fat held within are processed and eliminated through your lymphatic system.

Are CoolSculpting results permanent?

CoolSculpting treatments eliminate approximately 20%-25% of treated fat cells. Those cells will not regenerate and are permanently removed from your body.

However, it’s important to understand that the fat cells that remain in your body will still be able to expand and contract normally. This means your results are only permanent if you don’t gain a considerable amount of weight after treatment.

CoolSculpting is best suited for people who have reached and can maintain a healthy weight yet have lingering deposits of fat they’d like to remove. It is not an effective weight loss treatment but a valuable way to sculpt and refine the contours of your body.
